BEIRUT (AP) — En una de las principales autopistas de Beirut, unos manifestantes libaneses instalaron una sala con un sofá, una alfombra y un refrigerador. En otra, realizaron una clase de yoga. Y en otra, una banda con un acordeonista tocó uno de las últimas consignas de los manifestantes contra el gobierno libanés.
"Hela, hela, hela ho, la autopista está cerrada, cariño”, decía la canción - reflejo de lo creativo que se han tornado las manifestaciones conforme los manifestantes han ido bloqueando carreteras como parte de las protestas contra el gobierno los últimos 12 días.
Las manifestaciones están dirigidas a las elites políticas que han dominado al país desde la guerra del 1975-1990, y a quienes muchos acusan de corrupción y mala gestión económica.
En muchos lugares, manifestantes han protestado sentándose o recostándose en las calles, obligando a las fuerzas de seguridad a sacarlos a rastras de las piernas o brazos. En otros lugares, han bloqueado rutas con basureros volcados y han quemado neumáticos. Manifestantes prendieron fuego a objetos para bloquear la carretera del aeropuerto en Beirut el lunes por la mañana pero después los soldados libaneses llegaron para despejar el área.
Soldados libaneses sacaron a la fuerza a manifestantes de una carretera que une la ciudad de Sidón, en el sur, con la capital, Beirut, y detuvieron brevemente alrededor de una docena de ellos. No se usaron armas y no hubo reportes de heridos graves en la confrontación.
